Just in case you missed it…

October 10th is 'World Mental Health Day.' I know most people automatically think of individuals who may suffer from anxiety, depression, or other mental health disorders. Have you ever thought about other traumatizing experiences that women experience? Let's talk about it!

I read an article earlier this week that read the following:

•21-52% of women experiencing infertility trouble suffer from depression

•1 in 5 pregnant women and postpartum women will suffer from a maternal mental health disorder

•Black women are more likely to experience long lasting mental health concerns after childbirth

•And many women hide their mental illness for fear of shame

Let's get personal. In 2016, my husband and I decided we wanted to try for a family. After having fun trying, it became depressing, it became a job, it became lonely because we couldn't get pregnant. Thank God for my PCP who recommended my current OB/GYN, who recommended my fertility doctor. I had a grapefruit sized fibroid and low egg count. I never told a soul outside of my mom and sister. I felt ashamed knowing one day I may not have an opportunity for a family. It didn't help that my fibroid was growing and made my stomach look as if I was pregnant.

In 2018, I had my fibroid and cysts removed. In 2019 (13 days before our fertility treatment was set), we got pregnant. Our son is now a thriving three-nager!

I'll be sharing more of my story in later posts. For the purposes of World Mental Health Day, I want any woman reading this to know, you're not alone. If you don't have a support circle, I would love to be your support.

You are loved. You are amazing. You are not alone.

Sprinkled with Love,

B. Mommy Sprinkles
