Its been a couple of weeks because...life! It’s a new week though! I was so inspired and moved by something over the weekend, and I wanted to share.
A college friend of mine put out a plea on Facebook to help her find some diapers for her baby. The brand she uses is only at a specific store, and of course like most things, there’s a shortage of diaper supply. My heart immediately felt for her because I know what it’s like to be down to (almost) your last, and there’s no supply. My son is a product of the pandemic where nothing was on the shelves. I had a very hard to time breastfeeding, so I had to supplement with formula. Well, there was no formula. I remember a good friend a mine who gave me samples of formula because that’s all there was, and she was nice enough to put cans aside for me. Well, because of what I experienced (and having the heart I have), I reached out to her privately. I told her I would go to the specific store and see what I could find.
On Saturday, my son and I found 3 boxes of diapers!! I sure did grab them all 😤. I called her with excitement and told her I was headed to UPS. Her fear was the cost of shipping. I literally didn’t care because her baby needed diapers! I told the guy working there what happened and why I’m shipping diapers (I’m a talker lol), and unbeknownst to me, a lady heard the story. When my son and I walked out, she told me how beautiful it was that I have my own child, yet, I’m helping another mom. She gave me $15 towards what I spent in UPS. I immediately cried tears of joy.
I share this because, sometimes moms don’t have families to turn to for various reasons. If you live far way, or just not connected, it’s hard! Rather you have a 2-person household, or you’re a single mom, it’s imperative to have other mom friends!
As moms, we have a unique, yet shared experience. I have made more random mom friends than I ever planned to. Is it because I’m an extrovert? Maybe 🤷🏽♀️; but I also think shared experiences is what makes most connections! People typically don’t tell us what to expect in different stages of mommyhood, so it’s always nice to DM or text another mom…just to feel seen! Sometimes, it can feel very lonely. Other moms seem to have mastered motherhood; can juggle literally everything, and look like a baddie while doing it! Guess what, I'm not her. I struggle with consistently working out, I don't wear a face full of makeup, I'm here for cute and comfy, and I'm learning that it's okay...for this season at least. I know other moms who are just like me, and it feels good to not be the only one.
If you haven't already, build your own mommy village, in whatever way that looks to you. Just know, this journey should be made with others!
