What is your Badge of Honor?

I recently read an Instagram post where it praised women for being so strong. How women carry the load in so many areas, makes them powerhouses and it’s such a badge of honor. Can we be honest here? Rather you’re a parent or not; rather you are a stay-at-home mom or physically go into the office; rather you in your sweet season or making lemonade out of lemons, we as women truly get up and give all we can every single day. Every day holds a different 100%. Monday will look different from Tuesday, Tuesday will look different from Wednesday, etc. Each moment of each day, women have a special tenacity to do what we do; and that’s to MAKE IT HAPPEN!!
Now, in my opinion, I’m not sure if I would consider the strength in what we hold a badge of honor, because women are tired!! I chatted with a childhood friend of mine about the post, and the word that stuck out during our conversation was, “exhausting.” Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE being a woman. The older I get, the more I have an appreciation for what I truly embody, as a woman, as a Black woman, as a mother, as a wife, as a daughter, as a friend, as a member of my Sorority, as your new Mommy bestie, and more. I love all the hats! However, as they say on Beyonce’s Internet, “Life be Life-ing,” and it gets hard to carry the genuine smile; but we do it anyway right?
Let’s look at it this way, we have monthly periods that include, hormone shifts, cramps, excessive (sometimes unexpected) bleeding, cravings, feeling tired, bloated, etc. and we still take care of our homes, go to work, and take care of any necessary business. We’ve been doing it for years because “what choice do we have?” We all have choices, but every day, we choose to get up and give it all we’ve got! So, is being strong a badge of honor? Well to me, the badge of honor is recognizing the strength in who we are and knowing it’s okay to be tired sometimes. So, I ask today, what is your badge of honor? Remember, you are human. Feel your human feelings, and know you are honored, felt, and seen.
